The brew that had been simmering some weeks over the question of Indian hair boiled over into a ruling by leading haredi authority Rabbi Shalom Yosef Elyashiv forbidding Indian hair.

One wigmaker told of ending a fight between two customers over her last remaining "kosher" human-hair wig by offering to cut it in two. Others did a brisk business in synthetic hair, long considered old-fashioned.

Haredi community is in deep financial troubles. But of course, instead of permitting existing wigs and looking to another source of hair, its leaders just say "forbidden". And their women march in lines to obey.

Bah. Pity they don't decided on burning clothes instead.
