Wittgenstein wrote that mediocre writer must beware of too quickly replacing a crude, incorrect expression with a correct one. By doing so he kills his original idea, which was at least still a living seeding. Now it is withered and no longer worth anything. He may as well throw it on the rubblish heap. Whereas the wretched little seeding was still worth something.

It works not only in literature. For too many being a normal, correct and balanced person results in being nobody.

If I follow this advice (in writing or elsewhere) maybe I'd keep some originality, but no one would understand a thing :-)
