Между тем, в 80% между полом и потолком, картина в странах переживающих своего рода "индустриализацию" должна сильно отличаться от картины в развитых странах. Резкий перепад в доходах там должен быть, IMO.

Я, собственно, и имел в виду страны, переживающие индустриализацию. Мы сейчас активно работаем с Бангалором и Шанхаем - картинка идентичная совершенно.
Более того, очень напоминает Израиль середины-конца девяностых. Разрыв в доходах между программистами и остальным населением тоже был впечатляющий.
Видимо, без этого никак.
С другой стороны, в Бразилии и Аргентине такой же разрыв без всякой индустриализации...

Налоги сглаживали картинку, но не так чтобы очень. Всё равно программист получал в разы больше, скажем, инженера-механика с аналогичным стажем и образованием.

В принципе, они уже прошли критическую точку. Городское население увеличивается на 70-100 миллионов ежегодно, в основном за счет возникновения новых и расширения мелких (по китайским меркам) городов. Desperately poor это уже преувеличение.

When the Chinese hinterlands finally get too expensive, there will always be India, North Korea, and even that very retro favorite, Africa, to step in with the human capital. Economically, we can probably keep the cheap goods flowing for a very long time. Morally, it might not be such a great idea.

Giving very poor people jobs? That's immoral!

What can I say - I can't call it very moral either. Especially when cheap workpower is imported from diff. countries.

We are used to fight socialist ideas. We keep forgetting that shitty jobs remain no less shitty in free market settings.

In a way giving shitty jobs to poor countries can turn no less dangerous than giving them economical aid.

In Israel we certainly have it. Population of Gaza and Judea+Shomron (aka West Bank) learned nothing but inability to solve any problem by themselves from integration in our economy. And they also learned hate. Arafat sat in exile, but we prepared generation that accepted him with open arms. Because we provided the generation with economical infrastracture not of their own.

So it is not that easy. Alas.
