Regarding the news about Six Apart selling its service to SUP and total transfer of LJ control to Russia.

1. I will change my blogging platform sometime in the next year. I do not know where I will go or when. But I consider it proved that the whole idea of LJ - "Blog+Social Network in one combined packet" is wrong. Cause it break ties of this social network with entire blogosphere and at the same time allows anyone with fat purse to take control over it.

I think it is a good time to learn some new tricks.

2. I will take care that all my LJ friends would not have to worry about it. I don't know how yet - but I will setup something to pipeline my blog here. Here means the very blog you are reading now, not some additional pipeline. Since number of my locked entries is very limited (and I consider to stop writing them at all) - you will not notice the change.

PPS

How will it break the ties of "this social network with the entire blogosphere"?

And I'm really not bothered by the fundamental truth that LJ is run for-profit. When the original owners sold to Six Apart, the changes really weren't even noticeable. Unless you know something I don't (you might), why would you expect it to be different this time, and if not, who cares if LJ is bought and sold?

In LJ you first of all reading other people in LJ. You browse friends-friends feed to find new people. You read comments of other LJ members.

As a result 90% of blogs and communities you fill your mind with are located in LJ.

So am I. But SUP is a Russian company. Trust me - in this country they have their own ideas about free speech and business ethics. Several scandals in beginning of SUP partnership with 6-Apart proved it to me. For me blogging service based in Moscow means about the same as blogging service based in Beijing or Tehran.

The latest scandal was about SUP chief (or former SUP chief - not sure if he still leading the company) openly saying that using banner blocking software by LJ users should be punished cause it harms LJ business model. (I am exaggerating here, but only to some degree).

That's true, and I wish that LJ had better RSS feed options. But it's not as though getting a blog elsewhere really solves this issue, and it shouldn't be affected by the change of ownership...

Yea, "Russian ownership" to me brings to mind sketchy images of oligarchs or mafioso, but it's something I'd wait and see about before jumping ship based on assumptions. If they start pumping LJ full of banner ads, then yea... maybe it should be seen as inevitable, but I'll have to do a little more research on that first.

Oligarchs and mafioso are past. Today Russia is about state controlled corporations. With total state control over justice, press and remains of democracy and overwhelming level of cynicism everywhere...

Yes, that's exactly as I see it.

I'm surprised, when SixApart came in there was a riot on my flist, now no one seems to notice/care.

Well, we should take into account that 6A proved itself a pretty bad owner.
