(via itblogs)

A friend of mine bought a typein domain for $20,000 nine years ago.

Two months ago he sold it for $4,000,000, after earning a comparable amount in advertising payouts.

He spent his capital gains on another typein domain, valued at $4,500,000. Based on the current financials, I expect him to gain another order of magnitude over the next decade.

In view of their equity appreciation potential, typein domains are well bought even on the open market. There are things anyone can do to register existing domains for a nominal fee. There is no end to profitable arbitrage opportunities online. Unlike a lottery, arbitrage rewards knowledge.

In time of gold rush every lucky bloke think that his success is based on a knowledge...

I heard a story once about young man coming into Africa's wilderness to buy exotic wood.

At those times people used yearly river floods to float prepared rafts and bring them to civilization by a river. All bushes reached by the flood were already divided and sold

The youngster bought a place outside water limits for virtually nothing. He prepared rafts and - what a miracle! - that year flood was extremely high and it reached them. Youngster become a rich man in a few month and returned to Paris.

In a few years he wasted the money and returned to try his luck one more time. Needless to say that this time flood never reached his rafts.

You are proving my point. If a horse declines to drink after having been led to water, advantage accrues to its more learned or better inclined kin.
