It is not illegal to share CDs the way you could possibly share vinyl.

You can't do it with your IPOD (and similar) music libraries though.

"Smaller" seems to imply CDs, because files can't be smaller compared to vinyl. They are also not more expensive.

That's a very good post! The switch to compact discs was the perfect excuse to raise prices. "We bring you the wonders of advanced technology! It will be cheaper for us to produce -- but it'll cost you more!" Naturally, it backfired. Back in the good old days of vinyl, we all wanted our own copy. Sharing was no fun. You had to have the actual object. Now that the actual object is small and expensive, it's not that important to own it anymore -- so we'll share. And the little object quickly becomes obsolete. I remember having a hard time accepting the fact that vinyl records were gone, and that I had to switch to CDs. It never occurred to me that a few years later CDs would also be gone.
