Former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi told the BBC that recent sectarian violence is a sure sign of a nation at war with itself. "We are losing each day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more. If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is," he said.

Well, I don't know about God, but someone should advice him to read US history book and find out how proper civil war looks like.

I don't see your point. For one thing, Russian or Rwandian civil wars there much bloodier than American. For other, I'm surprised people in this parts of the world are still counted by tens, not thousands. Some hope here.

I am being sarcastic. The present wave of killing in Iraq is often used as a proof that US goal of "making Iraq a better place" is completely failed. That's why I mentioned US civil war above all others.

Of course the situation can turn worse yet.

Well, It is more like Soviet controlled Afganistan. Eventually US will have to leave and the country will descend into "proper" civil war because it is an artificially created country to begin with. Only a dictator or external occupiers can keep kurds in the country.
